portrait of the poet shouting eureka

Poetry by a a khaliq

Close up shot of a peony bud.

today i discovered the delight of spinning a peony
on the cusp of budding between my palms, stem
transmitting the last drops of magic needed to
make the magenta explode from its shy sphere.
that is to say, today i was archimedes or
someone else who saw a beautiful thing alone
and felt an exultant shout building in the throat.
i wanted to run through the streets, i wanted an
NFL instant replay, i wanted to turn around and
see you over my shoulder, watching me revel in
my fresh, golden, glimmering delight. but this is
my 1 bedroom apartment, and i live in these walls,
with my flowers. fresh and decaying, we two take turns
watching and whispering and waiting.
